Citi-UK Club

Report given on behalf of the Chairman for year ending Sept 2006

"Firstly, may I thank you for attending. I hope you will enjoy the social event later.
Under the by-laws we require 5% of the membership to form a quorum, which we appear to have.

Conceived as a Pensions Pressure group, and then our subsequent developement into a social club, we have certainly seen some change of focus during our short life; and whilst we have a growing membership there appears to be a growing disinterest in our organised social activities.
Let me explain:-

During the year we planned four separate events:

An Indoor Bowls competition for the Pam Ewing Trophy,
A mid-year Litten Tree event,
A boat trip on the M.V. Pocahontas up to Greenwich and further up to the Chelsea Bridge area.
A trip around the Houses of Parliament.
We also asked for names of those who would be interested in a golfing tournament.

The only event that there was sufficient interest in running was the trip around the Houses of Parliament.
I was pleased to organise this event and feel that those who attended enjoyed the day.
The other events had to be cancelled due to lack of interest and the Committee wonder whether such organised social events are of interest to the members.

Perhaps we should just retain the annual Litten Tree event, together with a club report, (including finances) and not attempt any other activities?
If that is the case, then I further ask myself - why we need a club membership at all. …
… perhaps we just need a register of names.
We could then drop the annual subscription and all the work that entails for the Treasurer and Membership Secretary.
There are sufficient funds in the account to manage such a register of names and to run the annual Litten Tree event, which, I think, should remain together with an annual report and a statement of accounts.

Later, under 'Any Other Business' , I would like to throw this option open to the floor to see how you feel about the matter.

For the next year, however, we shall need continue as we are,…..
……… and I therefore now move on to the next item on the agenda".

Geoffrey Liley,
Vice-Chairman
